B007 Ep 185 – Civil War

Bina007 reviews writer-director Alex Garland’s near-future political dystopian drama, Civil War.  It stars Kirsten Dunst and Wagner Moura as journalists travelling by car from New York to Washington DC to interview a fascist president of the USA.  Meanwhile, the Western Forces of Texas and California are readying to invade DC and retake the Capitol. Along the way, our journalists see what happens when institutional law and order breaks down and bigoted individuals fill that vacuum.

B007 Ep 184 – Back To Black

Bina007 reviews director Sam Taylor-Wood’s biopic of Amy Winehouse, based on a script by Matt Greenhalgh. The film features a stunningly good performance from Marisa Abela as Amy and an equally compelling Jack O’Connell as her vilified husband Blake Fielder-Civil. This film firmly anchors Amy’s story in her love of jazz and her family’s musical heritage. Controversially, it is kinder to Mitch Winehouse and Fielder-Civil than Asif Kapadia’s 2015 documentary Amy (see episode 98 of this podcast).
